Town councillors in Antigonish have picked a site for a new dog park.
They approved the site, which is on town land behind Club 60, at December’s regular town council meeting Monday night.
After, Laurie Boucher, Antigonish’s mayor, said the idea has been three years in the making.
Boucher said it first came up during the 2016 municipal election campaign.
“There’s so much positive feedback that we, as a council, knew that this is something that we would like to make happen,” she said. “We’re just happy it didn’t take 25 years like the skateboard park.”
Boucher said work, which is expected to start in the spring, should take a month.
She said $10,000 has been set aside for the project.
“The next step is to get estimates and to get best practices in there and see what the dog park is going to look like.”
Boucher said town officials have the ability to go above that amount if necessary.
