The 40th annual Marathon of Hope takes place Sunday.
Sarah Boudreau, the organizer of the Port Hawkesbury event, says Terry Fox runs usually held across the country can’t happen because of COVID-19.
Boudreau told The Hawk Morning Show that means they’ll have virtual challenges.
“Your Terry Fox event your way, or your run- I don’t want to call it a run because it doesn’t have to be a run- you can walk, you can roll, you can go for a hike,” she said. “We’re trying to encourage people to try like Terry- think of something that you can do to help keep his dream alive that is challenging for you, and that you can make an impact on people’s lives with cancer.”
Boudreau said anything you can do to help beat cancer is what Fox would have wanted.
She said you can sign up to fundraise online, then complete your personal challenge Sunday.
Boudreau said poor circumstances didn’t stop Fox, and it won’t stop them.
“Terry was given some circumstances that nobody wants, and we’re in that time right now- we’re in a circumstance that nobody wants,” she said. “He decided to adapt to that, and to strive, and so he tried his best- he had an idea and he went with it.”
Boudreau said she’ll open the event with a live-streamed flag raising in front of the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre Sunday.
She said you can watch before you start your own challenge.
