Participation in municipal elections increased locally.
Overall, the average voter turnout in the Quad Counties was 59 per cent, up from 52 per cent in the last municipal elections in 2016.
The highest turnout- and the highest increase- was in the Town of Port Hawkesbury with 73 per cent, which was up from 54 per cent four years earlier; there was no mayoral race in the town in 2016.
The lowest was the Town of Antigonish with 43 per cent, down six per cent; that could partly be explained by the lack of a mayoral race, as Laurie Boucher was acclaimed.
The Town of Mulgrave increased nine per cent to 59 per cent from 50 per cent four years earlier.
The Municipality of the District of Guysborough climbed 10 per cent to 67 per cent, compared to 57 per cent in 2016.
Antigonish Co. climbed from 38 per cent to 47 per cent, Inverness Co. improved from 50 per cent to 62 per cent, and Richmond Co. dropped slightly from 66 per cent to 65 per cent.
