Queen Elizabeth used her annual Christmas Day address to send a message of hope across the Commonwealth.
The Queen says she and her family have been inspired by the stories of people volunteering to help those in need.
“Remarkably, a year that has necessarily kept people apart has, in many ways, brought us closer,” she said in her address.
“In the United Kingdom and around the world, people have risen magnificently to the challenges of the year and I’m so proud and moved by this quite indomitable spirit.”
Queen Elizabeth acknowledged the struggles many are facing this year in her annual Christmas Day address.
As the number of COVID-19 cases rises around the world, many countries have implemented strict measures for the holiday season.
“For many, this time of year will be tinged with sadness,” said the Queen. “Some mourning the loss of those dear to them and others missing friends and family members distanced for safety when all they really want for Christmas is a simple hug or a squeeze of the hand.
“If you are among them, you are not alone and let me assure you of my thoughts and prayers.”
The Queen said while people of all faiths have been unable to gather this holiday season, we need life to go on.
“Let the light of Christmas, the spirit of selflessness, love and above all hope, guide us in the times ahead.”
