It will be a different Canada Day across the Quad Counties- and the entire country.
Officials in most municipalities had already called off their usual festivities- for the second year in a row- due to COVID-19.
Many of the remaining events have also been cancelled following the discovery of mass burial sites at former residential schools in Saskatchewan and B.C.; more than 1,000 bodies have been found in unmarked graves.
In a release, Brenda Chisholm-Beaton, the mayor of Port Hawkesbury, says town councillors held an emergency meeting Sunday.
Chisholm-Beaton says they voted to cancel all Canada Day activities and invite town residents to observe a day of reflection.
