A bridge in the Quad Counties is being replaced.
Frizzles Bridge in Brook Village, Inverness County desperately needs the work, but some locals don’t like the way officials are handling it.
Community members just found out Thursday about the work and a Bailey bridge won’t be in place.
That means a detour is happening and it’s not a short one.
Cyle Campbell, a third generation farmer in Brook Village tells The Hawk some farmers will have to put their milk on another truck.
“This causes the impact of having too much milk on the truck for the capacity of the truck so milk will have to be dumped down the drain.”
Campbell says it’s tough seeing the milk being wasted because they work hard to produce it 365 days a year.
He says important farm deliveries will be delayed because Hwy. 252 will be closed.
“There’s a truck that comes around once a month and they go to all the farms in Cape Breton on this certain day. Now they’ll have to take a long way or do two times a month because I mean the farmers still need their chemicals and supplies to be able to carry out everyday chores.”
Campbell says this could also impact the health of his livestock.
“If it’s going to take an extra 40 minutes for the vet to come to the farm, that could be life or death for this certain animal or a calf so you could lose two animals at once.”
Multiple farmers won’t be able to access their fields because they have to cross the bridge for land access.
The bridge is expected to be out for at least six to eight weeks.
