The last chance to see some of the exhibits that have become staples of the Museum of Natural History (MNH) is this weekend.
The museum is planning to retire its bird, mammal, and geology exhibits following the Thanksgiving long weekend.
The exhibits will be familiar to many Nova Scotians as they are the first thing you see when entering the museum and they have been on display for nearly 30 years.
The bird and mammal displays are particularly popular with children as they feature dioramas of the various animal species native to Nova Scotia.
The museum says they will be hanging onto all of the items that are on display and it’s likely they will be used elsewhere in the museum in the future.
In the Facebook post announcing the change, many museum patrons expressed disappointment that the exhibits that have been on display so long were coming down. The Museum responded to many of the comments saying although they understand the attachment many have to the displays exciting news things are being planned.
For 2022, the MNH plans to use the vacated displays for various temporary exhibits. By 2023, they hope to have new permanent exhibits to fill the space.
