Visitor restrictions are being implemented at Glace Bay Hospital and Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital to reflect COVID-19 activity.
These decisions are being made to keep COVID-19 out of hospitals, and keep patients and health care workers safe.
At Glace Bay Hospital, inpatients can have only one consistent visitor. One designated support person per day continues for:
• palliative care and other patients nearing end of life
• patients receiving medical assistance in dying
• outpatients, including patients arriving at the hospital for ambulatory care clinics, appointments or procedures who need support to receive care due to physical, intellectual, cognitive and emotional conditions
• patients requiring support for critical treatment decisions such as organ transplantation, initiation of hemodialysis at the discretion of the clinical team.
At Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, inpatients are not able to receive visitors, except one designated support person per day is allowed for:
• palliative care and other patients nearing end of life
• patients receiving medical assistance in dying
• outpatients, including patients arriving at the hospital for emergency and ambulatory care clinics, appointments or procedures who need support to receive care due to physical, intellectual, cognitive and emotional conditions
• children under 18 seeking treatment and/or admitted to hospital
• patients requiring support for critical treatment decisions such as organ transplantation, initiation of hemodialysis at the discretion of the clinical team.
These visitor restrictions will be in place at both hospitals until January 3.
Nova Scotia Health sincerely apologizes to patients and their families for a tightening of visitor restrictions at this time.
Nova Scotia Health will monitor the situation closely and will make changes when appropriate.
There are no changes to the current visitor restrictions for the rest of the province.
