The provincial NDP is calling on the Houston government to step in and prevent declining demand for solar projects in Nova Scotia.
This comes after Nova Scotia Power (NSP) proposed adding monthly fees for solar users — a move that’s been widely criticized as potentially devastating to the emerging industry.
“We are in a climate emergency with greenhouse reduction targets we are already unlikely to meet. Our efforts must go into supporting the creation of more green jobs, not killing them,” said NSNDP Natural Resources and Renewables spokesperson Claudia Chender.
The party wants intervenor status at the Utility and Review Board hearings so they can push the power company to change course.
Nova Scotia Power customers are subsidizing solar users and that’s why they’ve applied to charge them, Nova Scotia Power’s CEO Peter Gregg says.
