Zach Churchill officially launched his campaign for leader of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party today.
He has been the MLA for Yarmouth since 2010, and served as cabinet minister in several crucial portfolios, including health and education.
In front of current and former Liberal MLAs in Halifax, Churchill said the last election loss certainly affected the party.
“But how we respond to this loss is really important, and it’s what’s going to define us as a party and determine how we move forward,” says Churchill.
He says they can assign blame, or recognize what the mistakes were and do better next time.
Churchill says he welcomes the challenge of re-building the party, and holding the Houston government accountable.
He pointed to several issues like healthcare, pandemic recovery and high gas prices.
‘If we’re not focused as a party on these issues that matter and keep people up at night, then we’re not just going to be an opposition party, but we’ll be an opposition party for a long time. But, we have to get our own house in order.”
He has been the MLA for Yarmouth since 2010, and served as cabinet minister in several crucial portfolios, including health and education.
Churchill joins Angela Simmonds as the only Liberal MLA’s to announce their intention to seek the party leadership.
The vote will be held July 9th.
