The Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia has announced its changing it’s name.
The organization will be known as Hope for Mental Health going forward.
Karen Slaunwhite, Executive Director, Hope for Mental Health, says the new name better reflects the services the organization offers.
“With our new name, we want all Nova Scotians coping with a mental health issue to feel welcomed and encouraged to connect with us and access support. Our new name is more reflective and inclusive of our services, but we want families and individuals impacted by a schizophrenia or psychosis diagnosis to know that our commitment remains unwavering and they can expect the same quality of support they have always known from our team,” Slaunwhite said in a media release Monday.
The not-for-profit and registered charity originally offered services to only those with schizophrenia, but quickly grew to include all mental health issues when a need was seen in the province.
Hope for Mental Health helps more than 1500 Nova Scotians annually.
